Privacy Policy for BlurKit
Last Updated: October 23, 2026
Introduction
BlurKit ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how BlurKit handles information when you use our Chrome extension.
Information Collection and Use
What We DO NOT Collect
BlurKit is designed with privacy as the top priority. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your personal information or browsing data.
Specifically, we DO NOT:
- Collect any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Track your browsing history
- Store the content of web pages you visit
- Send any data to external servers
- Use cookies or tracking technologies
- Share information with third parties
- Sell or rent your data to anyone
How BlurKit Works
BlurKit operates entirely locally on your device:
- Detection Processing: All PII detection happens in your browser using pattern matching algorithms. The detected information never leaves your device.
- Settings Storage: Your extension settings (such as which detection filters are enabled, keyword lists, and preferences) are stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage API. This data:
- Stays on your device
- Is not accessible to us
- Can be deleted by uninstalling the extension
- May sync across your devices if you use Chrome sync (controlled by your Google account settings, not by us)
- No External Communication: BlurKit does not make any network requests to external servers. All functionality is self-contained within the extension.
Permissions Explained
BlurKit requires certain Chrome permissions to function. Here's why each permission is needed:
Storage Permission
- Why: To save your preferences and settings locally
- What it accesses: Your extension settings only (blur styles, enabled detection filters, keywords)
- What we do with it: Nothing - data stays on your device
Active Tab Permission
- Why: To detect and blur PII on the web page you're viewing
- What it accesses: Content of the current active tab
- What we do with it: Process locally to detect PII patterns; no data is sent anywhere
Context Menus Permission
- Why: To add "Blur this text" option to your right-click menu
- What it accesses: Selected text when you right-click
- What we do with it: Apply blur effect locally; no data is transmitted
Host Permissions (All URLs)
- Why: To work on any website you visit
- What it accesses: Web page content for PII detection
- What we do with it: Scan and blur sensitive information locally in real-time
Data Security
Since BlurKit processes all data locally and does not transmit any information:
- There is no risk of data breaches on our end
- Your sensitive information never leaves your device
- No user data is stored on our servers (we don't have servers)
Third-Party Services
BlurKit does not integrate with, use, or share data with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.
Children's Privacy
BlurKit does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we don't collect any data at all, the extension is safe for users of all ages.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Providing notice through the Chrome Web Store listing
Continued use of BlurKit after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
